Alexandra Road Estate. Park & Plant by Craig Atkinson Cafe Royal Books

Alexandra Road Estate is an award-winning brutalist estate in North London designed in 1968 by Neave Brown, an American architect who was then working in Camden Council’s architecture department.

This limited edition photobook features the photos of Craig Atkinson, creator of Cafe Royal books. In these photos he has captured the essence of what fascinates about post-war British architecture.

Craig is a photographer and Fine Art and Illustration lecturer.

Cafe Royal’s limited edition photobooks are collected by MoMa, The Tate, the British Library, Glasgow School of Art, the Martin Parr Foundation and the V&A to name a few. Craig’s clients include the New York Times, Dazed, Orange, GQ and the Royal Photographic Society.

Craig explains ‘My aim is to create a focussed and complete archive of British documentary photography. I publish roughly 70 titles each year with a small edition ‘archive box’ every 100th title. These archive boxes are aimed at major collections, libraries and museums — helping to increase the visibility of the work and making the books publicly accessible for as long as possible.
