Barbican Estate by Sam Kerridge

Sam Kerridge is a London based illustrator and printmaker. His work draws on the city and his urban surroundings, working architectural detail in the fabric of each piece of art. Kerridge begins by deconstructing the fundaments of architecture, reassembling them to create kaleidoscopic, geometric images, each one built with a graphic sensitivity and suffused with a surreal character.

Created at the end of 2021 – this is Sam’s vision of the Barbican Estate in all its brutalist glory. Sam explains

‘I was trying to capture the atmosphere of wandering around the labyrinthine space in the Barbican Centre. I’ve been visiting since I was a small child and have always found the mix of Utopian futuristic design, relaxing bodies of water and clever use of planting to be captivating. With this piece I wanted to capture the experience of exploring the entire place in one image.’s
